CURIOSITIES from the perspective of a Marine Surveyor

Boat Propeller

11/15/2018

Boat Propeller
Boat Propeller Dezincification
This propeller had been painted over with antifouling. Light hammer sounding returned dull sound. When the blades and the boss were scraped, a dezincification in advanced stage was discovered. The blade tips were porous and chipped off even at light impact.
The survey concluded that the propeller had no sufficient structural strength remaining and must be replaced before the boat is used.
