Vladimir Chorbadzhiev (back of the picture) enjoys a sunny day with a friend

I hold a Master's Degree in Marine Engineering and have graduated from a Naval Academy with majors in Navigation, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. After a successful career as a Merchant Marine Deck Officer, I joined a boatyard specialized in building, maintenance and repair of yachts and small craft including GRP, FRP, steel, aluminium hulls, propulsion and electronic systems. My solid academic knowledge meant that my role consistently involved providing Technical consultancy and Project management for most of the build and repair projects.

For formal training as a surveyor and to become a member of the YDSA (Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association), I chose the world-renowned Practical Yacht and Small Craft Surveying Course at the International Boatbuilding and Training College (IBTC), Lowestoft, which I passed with distinction.

To ensure competence to practice, building up knowledge, skills and practical experience, I am a member of the leading professional organisations RINA, YDSA, BMSE, MECAL and take active part in their ongoing training programs. It also gives me an opportunity to work alongside other UK leading marine surveyors.

In my work as a surveyor and a consultant, I strive to keep the focus on the customer. This philosophy and the highest industry standards which I apply, have won me a reputation of an approachable, responsive and enthusiastic marine professional. My survey reports are often described by customers as comprehensive and objective, tailored to their needs and supplemented with a sensible advice on serviceability and safety.

As well as surveying, I teach 'Electronic Aids to Navigation' and 'Celestial Navigation'. Competitive sailing, optimizing boat performance and construction is my passion and I rarely miss an opportunity to get on the water.

I currently own a classic, riveted aluminium boat, which I restored, re-rigged, fitted with a marine diesel engine and use as a trailerable day cruiser on the Thames, or sailing on the lakes and the South Coast
